Manchester United's 'Theatre of Dreams' stadium, offices under attack

In 2012, rats were reported seen in the club's staff canteen whilst similar case had been fumed over in 2006 when Burton players complained about rats on the pitch in an FA Cup tie

United have a history of rodent attack; there have been occasion where fans would jump out of their seats at the sight of a rat running across the stands and invading the pitch.

There are confirmed reports by UK Media, Sportsmail that the club’s authorities have contracted the services of pest control officials to bring the case to an end.

''They’re a nightmare and they are struggling to get rid of them,’’a source said

Rats have been seen in the North and South wings of the stadium, with some of the officials saying they have also had to chase the rodents out of their offices.

Many sources claim that the problem could be as a result of the Canal closely located around the stadium, which serves as habitat to the animals.

In 2006, an FA Cup clash between Man United and Burton FC was marred by complains by the opposition players who complained that rats were all over the pitch.

A mouse was pictured scurrying over the pitch during United’s victory over West Ham in 2010 while in 2012, there were reported issues with mice in the staff canteen.

A United official said: ''Manchester United implements a robust pest-control system throughout Old Trafford. As the report acknowledges, weekly checks are made in all catering areas and stringent measures are taken to ensure high levels of hygiene and cleanliness wherever food is stored, prepared and served.

''If incidences of this nature do occur at the stadium, immediate and appropriate action will be taken.''

Mice have also been seen in one of the Manchester Derbies; one was also spotted in a November 2013 EPL clash between United and Arsenal

The club says they are carrying out weekly checks and implement ‘immediate and appropriate action’ if mice are spotted.
